This event has been an incredible journey, learning experience, growth period, and a lesson in humility. It's taught me a lot about the music scene here, I've made some GREAT new friends here, and heard some bands I'd never heard.

Its time for a few months off from thinking about this. Time to get back to normal, at least, as normal as possible.

Here's ALL the flyers for the whole weekend! Download, print, share, do whatever you gotta do to get people to the shows! Yucca Tap Room and Pub Rock Live will be all ages all weekend, however Tempe Tavern will not be, for insurance reasons, sorry.

For the bands playing this event -

Very few band members have purchased any 3-day passes, so in an effort to make sure this event is as successful as it can be, I'm offering a deal to the bands playing this event - instead of a 3-day pass for $30, I'll sell them to you (again, only if you're in one of the bands that is playing the event) for $20 if you buy them from me directly. Since you get in free the might you're playing, this is a good price, considering you'd still get into the other venues all weekend, including Teenage Bottlerocket, The Queers, with The Copyrights show on Oct 5th. That alone is a $15 ticket, so for the other $5, you'd get into Yucca and Tempe Tavern too.

I'll be at AMF Tempe Village Lanes on Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm, or, if you want to pick some up today, I'll be home all day today because football is on. Sadly, I can't drive a car legally, so it's difficult for me to meet you anywhere; sorry about that (fucking Arizona...). Off my rocker

So here's the deal. Everyone WANTS this event to happen, verbally. Everyone is excited for it. Just like ANY show that happens that people are anxious for, there's awesome hype. People talk about it. People get other people interested. And I fucking love that. This is how GREAT things happen in our town, and how great things like this get repeated. Do you know what the secret to Lollapalooza, Groezrock, Riot Fest, The Fest(FL), KROQ BBQ, Vegas Punk Rock Bowling, and all the other super awesome fests that Phx is NEVER a part of? TICKET SALES. People actually BUY tickets to go, before the day of the event. Yes. I know it's a CRAZY concept, but people actually buy tickets before they go to an event. They plan to go ahead of time. It's a concept that people in Phx just haven't grasped. 

To answer the most obvious question, "WHY DOESN'T ANYTHING COOL EVER HAPPEN HERE??????"

Because YOU have to be a part of it. The silliest thing in the world is to want something, and then when it's presented to you, avoid it completely, but yet still complain that you can't get it. Seriously. If you don't get yourself involved, how you can expect everyone else to pick up the slack?

Am I putting this event on for me? No.

Am I putting on this event because I'm bored? No.

Am I putting on this event because I just feel like being a big shot? No. 

Am I putting on this event because I want to get rich? NOPE.

I'm putting on this event because YOU (the ppl of Phx) said you wanted it to happen. I'm doing this for YOU. Not for me.

What happens when enough bands book shows here that no one buys tickets to? They stop coming here. Bottom line. Case in point? Banner Pilot. Fabulous punk rock band, with a TON of talent,  from Minnesota that was here last week. Did you go? No? Well, don't expect them to come back. 25 people bought tickets for this major label band. 25. At $10 a pop, that's $250, which doesn't even really cover their costs of even stopping here. Anyone that has toured knows what I am talking about.

This post might seem angry or whatever, but really,  I DO want this to be successful for YOU - for Phoenix - for Mesa - for Tempe - for the venues - for the bands - for Scottsdale -  for everyone. But I can't buy all 300 passes myself and give them to you for free. I've worked my ASS off to make this event happen. This takes investment from everyone that is even remotely interested  in it. I would really love more than anything for this to be something that happens every year, and rivals with Vegas, but again.....I can't do it alone. I need you to support it, not just verbally, but financially.

Band of the Day, Sep 9th - Inept Hero!

Inept Hero was formed back in 2007. Four guys got together in hopes to win a battle of the bands at Mesa High School. So what happened? well, they didn't win first- but came in second and Five years, and a lot of work later, they have turned into four amazing artists, and one very talented band creating and fine tuning their unique sound of punk rock, reggae, and a little bit of hard core.

If you haven't seen this band live, make it a point to check out their Facebook page and see when their next show is.They WILL entertain you.

I first saw Inept Hero on New Years Eve in 2011 when my old band, LookOutLook, played with them at The Marquee with Voodoo Glow Skulls, Riot Act, and Authority Zero. I was immediately impressed with their tightness as a band. Since I'm a drummer, I was watching Uzziel Murua (drums) the whole time. He never missed a single note, even playing barefoot! Musically, they have grown a lot since then and have gotten even better as musicians. Members include:

Band of the Day, Sept 8th - We Were There

Self-described as 'peoplecore', We Were There is from Flagstaff, AZ. Definitely somewhere in the punk/pop/hardcore genre, this group puts on a great live show. Energetic, vibrant, and they really like to get the crowd involved. Members include:

Band of the Day, Rude King!

When it comes to great Ska music in Dallas, look no further than Rude King. Formed in 2003 in Chicago and transplanted to Dallas in 2006, Rude King has taken the scene by storm with high energy live shows and a sound rooted in 2-tone Ska, but infused with an intensity and style all their own. This dual fronted, seven-piece ska act includes male and female singers, a tight and soulful rhythm section, blistering guitar leads and a scorching-hot horn section.

Rude King's new release "Ruder, Better, Faster, Stronger" has been a well received follow-up to their debut EP, “Rude To The Last Drop”.

Known for putting on exciting live performances, Rude King enjoys success as a hot act in the Midwest, Southwest and along the West coast. Rude King is equally comfortable headlining or playing a supporting role for other regional and national touring bands. Band of the Day, Sept 1st! - Aggressive Express!

Aggressive Express is a punk band coming out of the East valley (Mesatown) of AZ. Once all living in the same apartment building the talk around the booze table was punk. Band started as "VC Brawlers" until Ardy goes and has a baby.... 9 months later reunited and pissed off we're back with new material and a fresh name... thank you for choosing the "Aggressive Express" please stay standing and knock someone over.

Band of the Day, August 31st - Minor Hysteria

When Oscar Flores(guitar/vocals), Michael Lerma (bass/vocals), and Daniel Flores got together in Glendale, AZ, they were all big Green Day fans, and started off learning some covers. After playing a local high school talent show, they got booked with Riot Act at the Nile Theater. After writing some new material, they had a full set of songs. They've been relatively quiet this year, but I wouldn't take that a sign they're going away. Check them on out on Reverbnation.

BAND OF THE DAY - August 30th - Egregious

Pronounced Ee-gree-jus, was formed in late December of 2010 by guitarist and lead vocalist Matt Petello, bassist Matt Rio, and drummer Brenon Stuart. Formed from the slowly dissolving band "Punch", Brenon joined Matt & Matt and soon Matt P.'s garage was emitting some very loud sounds. For about 5 months the trio practiced in Petello's garage, paving the backbone for songs such as 'Be a President', 'Kinks in the Universe', and 'I'm Not Suicidal'. Egregious then moved to Brenon's home practice space where such songs as 'Bomb in my Goiter' and 'I'm Bored' were crafted. After two solid months of building a solid 13 song repertory, the band entered Sandal Studios (owned and operated by Bryan Sandell) and cranked out a 5 song demo.

Band of the Day August 29th, LightSpeed Go!

I probably should have picked a band that has recordings for this, but since they have a show this Saturday at The Firehouse gallery downtown, I figured it's as good of a day to give them a plug.

All the members of this band are no strangers to the music scene here, as all of them have been in bands previously, including No Gimmick, LookOutLook, Off The Mark, and more. Rico(guitar), Paul(bass), and Marty(Drums) have formed a power trio of the punk rock fashion. I just got to see them play a couple weeks ago, and they're really talented guys that assembled a 90's era punk rock band, which I love. If you're a fan of Face to Face, Strung Out, Pennywise, or any 90s SOCAL punk, you'll dig this band. Come see them on Saturday, and buy a few three-day passes from me, since I'll be there!

Band of the Day August 28th - Eken Is Dead!

If you've lived in Phoenix in the previous 5 years, you've likely seen this Los Angeles-based band more than a few times, since they stop here so frequently. Currently on Blacksound Records, EID's raucous energy gets put into every note, and every live performance. If you haven't seen these guys, make plans to.

What is EKEN IS DEAD you ask? EID stands for taking the next step in your life; It's conquering your old dreams and moving on to the new. It's killing off what you once believed in and fighting for what matters to you today.

EKEN IS DEAD (say it like wreck, not eek) is a Los Angeles, CA based four-piece band playing elements of hard rock, alternative, metal and punk. Since it's inception in 2008, EID has earned a well deserved reputation based on professionalism and commitment to excellence. Whether an intimate local show or a packed House of Blues, EID has consistently brought their high intensity and charismatic presence to every single one of their shows. In addition to the relentless live schedule for which they have toured both nationally and internationally, EID has independently produced and released two full length albums including their latest effort, What Lies in the Mirror. EID's "No Retreat, No Surrender" attitude is evident as everyday is treated as an opportunity. They continue to grow musically while sharing stages with influential artists and turning on new listeners, all without ever compromising their integrity as musicians or humans. Band of the Day, August 26th, is Nerdzerker!

Any fans of Weird Al and Nerf Herder will certainly enjoy Nerderker. Hailing from Phoenix, Nerdzerker is a nerdcore/punk band that mostly writes/performs about comic books, Star Wars, and video games. With names like Jackson Bollocks (Bass/vocals), 0 (guitars/vocals), and Skeletor (drums/vocals) the nerd is heavy with this one. Citing Sham 69, MC Chris, Cock Sparrer, Minutemen, and Minor Threat as influences, you'll hear a little bit of all of those, and more, in their tunes, which you can find here:
